Questions we are often asked

Here you can find frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not included here, simply contact us: by email or by phone +49 (0)6181 43 42 775.

What does royalty free mean?

Music is royalty free if its author is not a member of any performing right organization (e.g. BMI, GEMA, AKM or SUISA). In this case the artist exercises his rights of use himself or authorizes someone else to do so. Musicfox’s artists are not members of any performing right organization and sell their music through musicfox. When you purchase a license to use a music track for your project, you do not have to pay fees to any performing right organization. For more information on royalty free music, please visit the section royalty free music.

What do I receive when ordering? (Scope of supply)

When you purchase a license for a music track from musicfox, you will receive the following files:

  • WAV sound file (44,1 kHz, 16 Bit)
  • MP3 sound file (320kb)
  • MP3 sound file (128kb)
  • The license and royalty exemption document (PDF)
  • Invoice (PDF)

If a music title is available in several versions, we will provide you with all versions. They can be used as desired within your project and combined with each other.

What do I need the royalty exemption document for?

The royalty exemption document certifies that the licensed music track is exempt from royalties. You need the royalty exemption document in the event of an inspection by a performing right organization. If you commission mechanical duplication you will be required to present the document at the pressing plant.

Are all the versions of the track included in the price?

Yes, if you license a title you can use all the versions within your project and combine them as you wish.

May I edit/alter the music track?

Yes, when you purchase a license you are granted basic editing rights. This allows you to adjust the track by cutting, looping, fading, transposing, time stretching, adding effects or voice-over narration to make it perfect for your project.

Please note that the copyright holder retains the copyright even after editing. This means that the editor is not permitted to sell the track.

I would like to use the music track as an intro/outro. Do I need a license for each application?

No, if you want to use a track as an intro/outro for a project (e.g., a podcast), only one license needs to be purchased.

What are the formats of the sound files that I receive?

You will receive the sound files in WAV (16Bit / 44100Hz), MP3 (320kb) and MP3 (128kb).

My video will be released in several languages. Do I need multiple licenses?

If a video is produced in several languages and has otherwise identical content, then one license covers the release of up to 3 language versions.

Can I test the music before purchasing a license?

Yes, as a registered corporate customer, you can download each track as a demo version in low resolution (MP3, 128kb) and integrate it into your project for testing. If the demo downloads are not yet active for your account, please let us know and we will be happy to activate this feature for you.

Please note that the demo files are for test purposes only. If you decide to use the title in your project, you must purchase a license for each respective application.

When can I download my files?

If you pay by credit card, direct debit or invoice, the sound files and documents are available for download in your customer account immediately after the order has been completed. If you pay in advance, the file download is released directly upon receipt of payment. If you have paid in advance and need the sound files urgently, please contact us.

Can I pay by invoice?

As a corporate customer, you are welcome to pay by invoice. Just register as a customer at musicfox and let us know by phone or e-mail that you would like to pay by invoice.

Can I use a track for which I have purchased a license for more than one project?

No, the licenses are always related to the specific project which you specify when placing your order. If you would like to use the track for another project, you will require an additional license.

I am not sure which license type I should choose. What should I do?

Please send us an email with a description of your project or call us. We will be happy to advise you when selecting your license.

I cannot find a suitable track for my project. What should I do?

Please contact us by phone or email and let us know what kind of music is missing in our repertoire. We will do our best to add it to our collection as soon as possible.
